Nigeria has Launches National Action Plan On UNSCR 2250 On Youth, Peace And Security

Nigeria has become the first country in Africa and second in the world behind Finland to adopt a National Action Plan on the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security.

On the 9th December 2015, the United Nations Security Council adopted Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security. Since then, stakeholders in Nigeria have embarked on the pathway of domesticating and localizing this framework across all levels.

At the national level, the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sport Development (FMYSD), the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) and others civil society partners under the aegis of the Nigeria Coalition on Youth, Peace and Security decided to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to develop a NAP on YPS to domesticate the five pillars of the UNSCR 2250 in Nigeria. This process entailed engaging stakeholders via a national youth forum; organising in-person consultations in the form of zonal workshops, community level focus group discussions, and national conferences; online consultations and meetings; and national validation meetings. Building Blocks for Peace Foundation played a very key role in the entire process leading to the adoption.
