2023: Many Of Us Will Leave Nigeria If Sowore Eventually Becomes President — Gen. Abdulsalami At National Peace Committee Meeting

Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (retired), a former head of state, has amusingly said that he and some of his contemporaries will leave Nigeria if Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), is elected to lead the nation.

The Eaglesforesight gathered that during the National Peace Committee (NPC) meeting in Abuja on Friday, the AAC candidate was asked by the former Nigerian leader to “reconcile” with Major Hamza Mustapha, the candidate of the Action Alliance (AA).

However, Sowore said his disagreement was political, stressing that “I have issues with all the military people that annulled the June 12, 1993 elections including him (Gen. Abubakar).”

Responding, the Abubakar said: “Sowore, you are talking about 20 years ago. By the time you become the president of this country, I think some of us will leave this country.

“I think quite honestly, let bygones be bygones. What has happened has happened. Let’s go on with what is in front of us.”

General Abdulsalami Abubakar became head of state in Nigeria on 9 June 1998 after the death of General Sani Abacha. Abubakar replaced or transferred the military administrators of most of the states, and instructed the new team to prepare for a smooth transition to democracy in May 1999.
