No fewer than 14 different political parties in Ondo state on Thursday signed an agreement for the peaceful behavior of their supporters ahead of the state’s upcoming general election.

The Nigerian news agency reports that the political parties include the People’s Democratic Party, All Progressives Congress, Labor Party, SDP and many others.

The peace agreement was signed by the presidents and candidates of the political parties in the upcoming elections at the stakeholder meeting organized by the Commissioner of Police in Ondo, CP Oyeyemi Oyediran.

Oyediran said the move was necessary to ensure that upcoming elections before, during and after the exercise were devoid of bitterness and violence.

“There is a campaign going on everywhere and we are all aware of the colors and cries in some places, while some places are very peaceful and others are not.

“But for the areas that are not so quiet, we’ve made some efforts to make sure they have peace in those areas.

“The worst of the areas is Idanre, but by the grace of God I think we have nipped the crisis in the bud and it is now relatively calm,” he said.
