11 burned to death in Ondo car accident

At least 11 people died on Sunday morning after a vehicle they were traveling in collided with a truck at Soka Bridge in Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area.

According to a witness, the accident involved a Marcopollo bus and a truck and the victims of the accident were burned beyond recognition when the two vehicles caught fire.

He explained that the truck drove against traffic and collided with the Marcopollo and the two vehicles caught fire.

“The trailer passed through a one-way street and collided with the Marcopollo bus coming over the Benin road.

“The bus immediately caught fire and there was no timely help to save the victims and 11 of the victims burned beyond recognition”

The Ondo sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Ezekiel Son’Allah, confirmed the incident and attributed the accident to reckless driving and excessive speed.

He said the incident caused traffic congestion along the route and all 11 persons were burned beyond recognition.

“The fire has been extinguished while traffic on Benin/Lagos Lane is being managed.

“The accident occurred due to speeding on the part of the involved drivers of the vehicles.

“Together with other security services, we are working in top gear to get crashed vehicles off the road”

The FRSC boss said the remains of the victims had been deposited in the morgue of the General Hospital in Ore.

He advised motorists to always obey the speed limit while driving, to concentrate, to exercise patience and to obey all traffic rules and regulations to save lives and property.
