…Ogun West youth leader, Comrade Jinad Hammed (popularly known as Otunba) urges party stakeholders to uphold fairness and transparency

A prominent youth advocate in Ogun West, Comrade Jinad Hammed (popularly known as Otunba), has expressed deep concern over what he described as the systematic discouragement of young people from active political participation in the senatorial district.

Addressing journalists in Atan-Ota on Friday, the Chairman of the Concerned Ogun Youths Group alleged that some political leaders across party lines were frustrating youthful aspirants, compelling them to abandon their ambitions or surrender their political structures.

According to him, such practices not only undermine the democratic process but also stifle visionary leadership among the younger generation.

“As the general elections draw nearer, it is disheartening to observe that certain leaders in Ogun West prioritize ‘money politics’ over merit. This trend is weakening the potentials of young aspirants, killing dreams, and burying their ambitions in the name of selfish interests,” he said.

Otunba noted that in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, youthful candidates are frequently told to “wait for their turn,” a position he described as retrogressive and unfair.

He cautioned that while some leaders see youth participation as a positive step for Nigeria’s democracy, others exploit it as a tool for extortion or remain indifferent to the struggles of aspiring politicians.

“It is embarrassing that, in today’s political climate, young aspirants are still being frustrated and manipulated. History will not forget these actions, and generations to come will remember those who deliberately shut the doors of opportunity against youths,” he warned.

The youth leader called on political stakeholders across all parties — APC, PDP, ADC, LP, and others — to urgently embrace fairness, transparency, and accountability in their dealings with young aspirants.

“I strongly urge leaders across board to check this pattern of unfair treatment and work towards restoring balance and credibility in the political system of Ogun West and Ado-Odo/Ota in particular,” he concluded.
