Gunmen Invade Gombe Community, Kill Resident in Botched Kidnap Attempt

Tension has enveloped Kwami community in Gombe State after suspected kidnappers launched a late-night attack on Sunday, killing a resident identified as Adamu Commander.
Eyewitnesses said the armed men stormed the area under the cover of darkness but were confronted by locals who had mobilized upon learning of the intrusion. Despite the community’s resistance, the attackers reportedly overpowered them.
Tragically, Adamu Commander was captured during the confrontation and gruesomely killed, with sources alleging that the assailants slit his throat before fleeing.

The victim, described as a respected figure in the community, is survived by two wives. His death has thrown the area into mourning and heightened fears over worsening insecurity in rural Gombe.
“This incident has shaken everyone here,” a resident told journalists. “We tried to defend ourselves, but the gunmen were heavily armed. Now we have lost one of our own. People are living in fear.”
Residents are calling on security agencies and the government to intensify efforts in protecting vulnerable communities from recurring armed invasions and kidnappings.
