Abiodun Blames Past Administration for Ogun’s Bad Roads, Reaffirms Commitment to Statewide Repairs

The Ogun State Government has attributed the deplorable state of several roads across the state to the legacy of neglect inherited from previous administrations, assuring residents of ongoing efforts to restore and expand infrastructure development.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, made this known in a statement on Tuesday, stressing that the administration remains steadfast in its mission to deliver even development to every part of the state.

Akinmade revealed that the government is currently working on four major highways within the Ifo, Sango Ota, and Idiroko axis, adding that the state has also taken responsibility for rehabilitating some federal roads to ease the burden on motorists.

“The road in question, like many others in the Sango-Ota axis, had been in that deplorable state for many years before the coming of Governor Abiodun. They are part of the huge infrastructure deficit inherited by this administration in 2019,” Akinmade stated.

He further explained that the 140-kilometre Abeokuta–Lagos Expressway, though a federal road, is being rehabilitated by the state government. Similarly, work is ongoing on the Sango–Idiroko Road, another federal route being reconstructed by the state.

Addressing public concerns, Akinmade dismissed claims of neglect in some communities, clarifying that the Ota–Itele–Lafenwa stretch, which spans about 24 kilometres, has already been captured in the 2026 budget.

The statement also highlighted completed road projects in the Ifo–Ado Odo–Ota axis, including Ikorita Meta, Adenrele/Olose Titus Vespa Road, Olusegun Osoba Road, Toyin–Agbado Road, and Sango Ota–Oke Aro–Ojodu Abiodun Road, among others.

According to Akinmade, these projects reflect Governor Abiodun’s “determination to spread development evenly to all parts of Ogun State as fast as time and available resources permit.”

He, however, urged residents to be cautious of politically motivated narratives aimed at discrediting the government’s developmental efforts.

“While recognising the rights of the good people of Ogun State to continue to demand the dividends of democracy, the government warns against the antics of opposition politicians seeking to misrepresent its commitment to infrastructure renewal,” Akinmade cautioned.
