Senator Gbenga Daniel Advocates Establishment of Federal Medical Centre in Ijebu Ode

The Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, His Excellency, Otunba Engr. Gbenga Daniel, has renewed calls for improved healthcare access in Ogun State as he passionately championed the Federal Medical Centres (Amendment) Bill during plenary at the National Assembly on Tuesday.
The proposed legislation, which seeks to establish a Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Ijebu Ode, aims to expand the network of federal health institutions across Nigeria in line with the Federal Government’s drive to ensure equitable healthcare delivery nationwide.
In his well-articulated submission, Senator Daniel underscored the urgent need for a fair distribution of federal medical facilities, particularly in the Ijebu and Remo divisions of Ogun State, where access to quality healthcare remains limited.
“Access to quality healthcare should not be a privilege but a fundamental right. The establishment of the Federal Medical Centre in Ijebu Ode is not merely desirable but essential for the good people of Ogun East,”
— Senator Daniel stated on the floor of the Senate.
The former Ogun State Governor explained that the proposed FMC would complement existing facilities, notably the FMC Abeokuta, by decongesting patient traffic and providing advanced medical care to communities in Ogun East. He added that the project would also enhance emergency response capacity, create employment opportunities, and promote medical education and research across the South-West region.
